A monthly movie series featuring newer releases of all kinds!
This month, we're playing: Five Easy Pieces (R)
Directed by Bob Rafelson, written by Rafelson and Carole Eastman, and starring Jack Nicholson and Karen Black, this 1970 classic road drama received a national theatrical re-release in December 2025, followed by a restored 4K UHD Blu-ray combo release from Criterion Collection in 2026.
Five Easy Pieces served as a key milestone of the American New Wave and counterculture cinema. It was nominated for four Academy Awards and five Golden Globe Awards, winning the award for Best Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture.
Bobby Dupea (Nicholson) is a disillusioned blue-collar oil rigger in California, hiding a secret past as a classical piano prodigy. When he learns his father is dying, he takes an uneasy road trip with his waitress girlfriend (Black) to his wealthy family estate in Washington, forcing him to confront his past, his class roots, and his inability to commit to either life.
